I do not like snakes either Thorneyside. I moved very quickly away from the spot. This was quite bigger than our garden snake on the Island.

I imagine it wise to learn about the different snakes of a locale so you know which ones best avoided - quickly!

The Pacific Rubber snake. Harmless. You couldn't make it bite even if you tried you're best.
It didn't panic and slither away I bet. Just took its time....

I am not fond of any snake Green_finger.
Stan, you are a wealth of information. Thank you. We walk that path often so good to know that it is harmless.

Klahanie, always put OH out in front when walking in strange places :)

That is an excellent suggestion Green_finger. :-)

I love snakes and this one is a beauty. When I lived on the I.O.W one of my neighbours kept a few snakes and I was allowed to handle them when I went.

Oh no it made me cringe , we only have Adders I always wear walking boots when we walk in the woods ....

Good idea to wear boots when walking Amy. We used to have slow worms, and grass snakes in our garden, and on the allotment just up the road, when we lived on the I.O.W, and they had Adders near to the golf course.

This looks pretty boring compared to colourful zig-zagy Adders. (had to google)

Interesting though not very pretty. Our adders are much smaller & like to lie in sunny spots.

Feverfew, this snake liked the warm pavement there (I believe) . This is the first time I have encountered a snake here although, I believe that they are plenty of them by the lake. We do have some geckos around the house.

No thank you. I moved a large tray earlier this year and a grass snake slid out from under it. Ugh!
