Dombeya wallichii - Tropical Hydrangea or Pink Ball Tree

Dombeya wallichii - Tropical Hydrangea or Pink Ball Tree (Dombeya wallichii - Tropical Hydrangea or Pink Ball Tree)

My Tropical Hydrangea (it's not a Hydrangea) has about 100 flower clusters. It's a winter bloomer and has such a nice fragrance, like strawberry cake or ice cream. Photo taken Jan. 4, 2016.

Johnjoe:

Yes, I love this plant. However, it in a large pot bordering my neighbor's fence and it's very pot-bound. It would so much better if I had a spot to put into the ground. The flower clusters would be about 4 times as larger.

sooo pretty.I am amazed they grow with you...my hydrangeas are the first big plant to need watering in the summer if we dont have rain for a few weeks!

Sandra:

It's not a Hydrangea. It's a Dombeya species, which is trees from the deep tropics. Most species of Dombeya grow into large trees; however, have gorgeous flowers by the hundreds of thousands.
