Aaaaaah! How lovely. I have a dessicated one in my fireplace! it's the only one I saw last year in my garden and it fell asleep behind a log burning stove....daft thing. Still, I expect it couldn't have suffered too much or it would have moved. Oh, I read somewhere that we might have a plague like in the 70s...do you remember that Amy?

Poor ladybird Karen ,yes I well remember the plague it was weird everywhere on our coast was piled high with them you couldn't walk on a pavement without walking on them , I believe these probably hibernated in the conifers everywhere I looked today there were large quantities in the branches ..the strangest 'plague ' I've seen was millions of starfish on the beach it was completely covered ...

Karen
Amy if she was old enough was probably hugging trees then not ladybirds.

Lol ..that's true Brian , I must say I loved wearing long hippy skirts but we didn't have the freedom we are led to believe I,m pretty sure that was only for the rich kids who didn't have to work !

lol....that must have been amazing to see all those starfish. A couple of years ago there were loads of jellyfish on our beaches, but I wouldn't call it a plague...just a horrid mess! I must say, I love a full length skirt!

There won't be any greenfly in your garden, this year Amy, by the look of those! Isn't it great to see them all...my two sage bushes are full of them too...and all our native species. A friends garden has very many too...all Harlequin ones...all different colours, sizes, some very spotted and others hardly at all.....

Yuk I wouldn't want to walk on a beach with Jelly fish Karen slimy things .... I bought a lovely new long skirt last week for the summer Karen if we ever have one that is ! Janey nice to know you have ladybirds tin your garden ,the Harlequin variety are the invasive ones responsible for the decline of our native species lets hope they keep out of your garden ...

Yes it's incredible that they are only a few streets away, they have had them quite a few years now.....so far they have not flown into mine, they must have what they need there.....

What a lovely cluster, Amy. I've seen one or two in the garden and Millie nearly sniffed one up as we walked in the field this morning!

What a treat to have so many. I rarely see ladybirds these days especially in March!!

My word Amy, you must have our share as well! no aphid's for you this year!!

I have a lot in my garden too, finding it quite strange to have so many so early. Very active too.

I have only seen a couple so far Amy, and both were on a plant I brought indoors over winter..I put it out when it was a bit warmer, and they flew away...

...they heard a rumour about Amy's conifers! lol. I love ladybugs too... (we call them bugs...not birds. I like your way better.) ahem... we have the harlequin types now and they like to winter in our houses! sofits, windows, and walls...anywhere they can find a niche. They were so numerous around our back door that I had to use the vacuum! I haven't seen any of the little native ladybirds lately.

I like that lori Ladybugs ! well they are more like bugs than birds really .... Oh NO ! it sounds as though the Harlequins are killing off the natives what a shame , I noticed more groups than ever today mostly in conifers and always on the side the sun shines .....
