Dwarf "Tortuosa " Beech trees

This is very odd ,there are 1000 of these in this Forest ,( Les Faux de Verzy ) nobody knows why it happens , they are almost like large bonsai , even the scientists are baffled

I have had another look in my book and it dosn,t actually say Janey , I presume some of them are very old but there are young ones as well
