It is almost 5 feet tall and suddenly started growing in a pot containing a Pelargonium. I don't know where it came from, I've never grown them before, and there are none in the surrounding gardens.

Birds do us all sorts of good turns... so do squirrels. I've found several young walnut trees this summer...no doubt started the same way.

Will you leave it for the birds when it turns to seed?

I don't think so Waddy, Bella chases them so I try to deter them from the garden.

I love sun flowers & this one is a beauty. Will you be growing a few of the seeds next year. They cut & last well indoors. Beryl would enjoy. Lovely in a big blue jug.

Oh what a shame.

I don't mind Waddy, I also have a bird phobia so I can do without them :)

I have never been able to grow sunflowers as they’re prone to blackfly which weakens the stem and then ants start farming them. My resolution for next year is to have another go at growing them.
