It is an Aster and as you say DD2, will always be an Aster. Why, oh why do they keep changing the names and who is "they" anyway.

Asters they are and ever shall be. That's what I say. I've never seen such a deep shade of blue...I like!

Thank you Bathgate, isn't it a gorgeous colour!
Thorney it really annoys me, all this name changing, it's the powers that be!! nothing else better to do with their time!
Thanks Pam, it's the best in our garden this year...

We gardeners have generally used the Latin names of plants because we knew exactly what we were talking about, whereas people can say lily, daisy etc. and could mean so many things. Now there are more than one latin name for many plants and so it defeats its own purpose. I suppose this is all because of DNA profiling, so unless we make the effort to learn the new ones, we will just be confused. But its hard isn't it....I have real trouble with Hesperanthus instead of Schizostylis, and Sedum telephium has now become Hylotelephium. grrrrr....

Asters is it? I'm still saying Michaelmas daisies...
It is very difficult but I can see why they change them even though I've stopped trying to remember the new names. - but some plants in the same family are so very dissimilar it makes you wonder if knowing what they know now they might have chosen a different characteristic to decide on relationships.
Thank you for the link - can't get it just now but will try again later. Google has a mind of its own.

I was bought up with Michaelmas daisies because we had just the ordinary tall variety all those years ago in the fifties, but now there are so many different varieties to choose from...but yes Asters......Lovely colour DD.
