For the first time ever I picked a handful of walnuts in their cases from our very old walnut tree.
It was more exciting than picking conkers!

How wonderful to have your own walnuts. It will be great to eat them.

Oh Chris ,I'm thrilled for you what a lovely surprise and treat , we had an old tree in our previous garden but it died after developing what we think was Honey fungus you could see the black threads under the bark where it pealed off , we had another self seeded one which was doing well approx. 6ft tall by the time we left I often wonder if its surviving or if the new owners even recognized it for what it was ..

Thank you all for your comments here.
The tree is looking quite old now and so it was quite a surprise to see the walnuts growing on it! Wonder what it liked about this year in particular?!
