Goldfinches

These pretty little birds have begun to return for Sunflower hearts again.

Good capture, Shirley. 'Ours' seem to have deserted us over the last few days. Perhaps they have flown over to you?

What a lovely sight.

Thanks Paul, Ange and Chris - we had wondered if they might return and am so pleased to see that they have! I counted eight on those feeders this morning. There is a large Pittosporum shrub/tree behind and above the feeders so that gives the birds plenty of cover. Fascinating to watch them . . . :o)

Lovely pic, Shirley. We get them feasting on our sunflower hearts. Such pretty visitors.

Lovely to see so many Goldfinches in your garden, Shirley! I only ever see the odd bird around here!

Kate, yesterday we added a feeder of mixed bird seed and have been chuffed to see a Blue Tit and a Great Tit feeding there today.

David, that's a shame. Probably not a good idea to hang feeders on your balcony really - they would destroy your lovely plants!

Lovely...and they have such a tinkling song..
Altogether a really attractive bird..:)

I've thought about putting up some feeders for years but as we are on the ground floor & close to the entrance I don't think they will come with people coming & going all day & all hours

Janey, I must agree with you, they really are lovely birds.

David, I think the birds feed there at least three times a day. Early morning, then around 9am and again at 5pm - creatures of habit!

Lovely to see your goldfinches. I get them also, but not as yet. At the moment, lots of house sparrows, but as their numbers are said to have decreased, it is nice to see them even though they are not quite as pretty as other little birds. The kestrel is around a lot too. I see him (or her) sitting up in the trees, lots of squeaking, don't know what it's all about!

Thanks Josie, I don't think I have ever seen a Kestrel in real life!

How delightful…..

Dotty, they are regular visitors now, along with Bluetits and Long tailed Tits . . . :o)

Lucky you…… had to stop feeding as it was attracting rats…new neighbours have 🐓…..which made it worse..

We have put Sunflower hearts only out for a long time, the Goldfinches love them, but since adding a mixed seed feeder, the Tits and a Greenfinch have appeared.

That's horrible for you to have had rats. We used to have little Field Mice, the cat would often chase them around, but sadly our cat is no longer with us . . . :o((

The goldfinches have come to me now, 14 in a little flock, so nice to see them.

Josie, they are such pretty little birds, no wonder a group of them is called a Charm!

Sorry to hear you no longer have your cat……such a character!

We miss her very much . . . :o(
