Julia, I found this info. :
How do you prune Sambucus Black Lace?
Prune for shrub maintenance each year after the first year by removing one-third of the new branches in late winter or early spring. Cut older stems at ground level as well, leaving an equal number of branches that are one, two and three years old. Remove branches older than three years, because older ones become weak.

Siris, I noticed in one of the RHS Chelsea gardens, this shrub was planted as a low growing front of border plant ... really attractive too!

Hb, this one is getting on a bit now so I may take cuttings later on in the year and start afresh.
Amy, I hope you find one soon ... :o)
Thanks Josie ...

I do like the way you’ve shaped it, very attractive and ornamental, Shirley.

Thanks Kate, the big dark leaved Beech tree behind is in neighbour's garden, house is empty and up for sale and I'm hoping the new folk don't cut it down!

That’s always a worry when new folks move into a property, fingers crossed & keep us posted.

David, I have yet to see one in a garden around here. Perhaps it's not a front garden shrub really ... :o)

Julia, yes I do as it's now ten years old so it gets cut down to about 4ft. in early Spring.
