Yellow Gladiolus

Yellow Gladiolus

I planted the corms in the Spring, dotted around the garden. I do like them, but they flop and need staking to keep them looking good.

Thanks Julia, it doesn't show upon this photo but there is a lovely dark pink/red line within each bloom.

What a lovely full stem of flowers.
Ref my Glads. I think the size of my flowers are smaller and more spaced on the tall stems.

Thanks Siris, do you think they will flower next year if I lift them and plant them all together, rather than all around the garden as they currently are? That way, I could maybe tie them in to a tall obelisk ...

Stunning colour Shirley! I haven't grown them for years, for that reason that they bend in half. Maybe good amongst tall perennials?
Watching GW on Thursday, Monty showed us lots of different gladioli, more daintier types that may be easier..

Thanks Janey, good to see you on GoY again! I hope all is well with you.
I have yet to see the latest GW programme and am now looking forward to it ... thanks for the heads up!

Janey, I just saw the Gladiolus nanas types on Gardeners World at RHS Tatton - food for thought - thanks for telling me.

Glad you like them David - although one of them has turned out to be a bright red instead of yellow!

Shirley something similar happened to me with my white Petunias last year - one of the last boxes I bought turned out to have a deep purple with a black throat, as well as a deep pink & a yellow with a black throat as well! They totally ruined my display even though I liked the individual plants!

Human error I would imagine!

More likely machine error I would think! Possibly some seeds from a different variety got mixed in with the pure whites at the time of sowing. When I bought them I think there were a few white flowers open but when I transplanted them to their final pots to put on the railings I didn't notice any different colours, if I had I would never have planted them out among the whites.

In one pot I remember particularly well there was 1 white but 3 other colours! And I only put 2 plugs in each pot! At the time of putting them in the earthenware pots I thought each plug was an individual plant, as had been the case with the first 2 or 3 boxes I planted out a week earlier. But as they started to flower later than the whites I couldn't remove them without killing them all.
