I sat in the shade yesterday, long cool drink to hand and watched the small birds coming in for a sip or two of water. They must be struggling in this heat.

Sheila, I have seen a large Seagull, Crows, Magpies, along with the smaller birds, i.e. Finches, Tits, Robins coming in for water. Unheard of to see so many. We now have five 'water bowls' around the garden for them ... :o)

Well done Shirley, no wonder they’re all coming to you! We only have blackbirds, magpies, pigeons, tits and robins. There was a wren in the garden the other day, but I think he’s too shy to use the birdbath …

Sheila, I would love to have a Wren in my garden!

We have three bird baths in different places around the garden, but the birds always seem to go to the same one and needs fresh water in it every day.

Rose, I have just scrubbed one of the plastic saucers out as it was turning green ... yuk!
We noticed the birds choose the same feeder out of the three most days. They're not daft as it's the one hanging in the shade ... clever birds!

Which is why the birds just go to the same bird bath then!
Never thought of that!

Lovely picture, Shirley! I imagine it must be very difficult for wildlife to get enough to drink in this terrible heat of the last few days!
We are on a balcony but we can´t put out water. Pigeons come in from time to time in spite of the strings I put up for my climbers, Morning Glory & Nasturtiums (which haven't grown this year! 😢), & barge around knocking things over & breaking plants. 😱

David, I think that the Pigeons are the most destructive of all the birds that visit our garden! They are so clumsy, anything in their flight path just gets broken or knocked over ... :o(
Oh yes, I put a couple of photos of Spanish Flag plants on for you ... seeds actually germinated this year ... :o)

My neighbour & I put out lots of dishes of water & many birds come. The other day the little birds were trying to drink while the blackbird was having a bath, they persisted & got a shower as well. All the tits visit, Great, Blue, Coal &
L tailed. Also, the Nuthatch, House Sparrows & lots of pigeons, Feral, Wood, Collared. They all flew off together
recently & when I looked to see what had startled them
there was a young Sparrowhawk sitting on the fence post.
I was pleased to see it though as I like my raptors, they have to live too.I hear the Tawny owls hooting every night. I guess we are quite well off regarding bird species in this area, Buzzards & the occasional Red kite too.

How lovely to hear Owls hooting at night ... I was awakened at 5.15am today by Crows and Pigeons having an argument in the trees across the road ... :o(

We get woken up about 5am with seagulls screaming outside our bedroom window as they fly past - you'd think we were on the Norfolk coast! 😂

Yes,they must be struggling as there are no puddles for them to drink from. We’re seeing fewer at the birdbath now … sad.
