Patient's pineapple plant. (Ananas comosus)

One of my chaps had ordered this from his gardening catalogue...arrived recently. He's so pleased with it!
I'm not au fait with these..I'm not actually very good with houseplants generally.

It is fascinating to see a pineapple actually growing.

Im conscious of my cat and what I can’t have indoors, never mind outdoors Paul! But, yes, I do struggle with indoor plants…I’ve tried but failed.

Chris, I was impressed. He has it on one of his kitchen windows. His conservatory has some very healthy and exotic plants too!

After he has cut off the pineapple head to eat it, he could trim off the top leaves and root the stump. Ive 5 rooted ones now growing, the oldest bring 2 years old, another 1 year before a fruit hopefully.

Oh that’s good to hear, Sue! I shall pass this on to him. Thank you!

I am like you Kate, not too good with houseplants , although I do have four in the conservatory, one being a Jasmine and the other a spider plant.
I don't know the proper name of the others, but on the label it said Flamingo.
I don't know how they survive as they just get watered when I remember! lol

Wow! That’s amazing! I’ve never seen one grown as a houseplant here.

I have a few in pots in the backyard, but most are in the ground, because they grow faster. I hope to get some fruit again this coming year. I think you saw my posted 4th generation ‘Super Sweet’ variety pineapple that was in my front yard. Home-grown pineapples are extremely sweet. You’ll never want to buy one from the store again.😀

Rose, I think I have tried so many houseplants over the years, with not much success. I've given them over to friends and family to give the poor plants a chance! Maybe having a conservatory helps!

Oh, thanks, Andy! I will be sure to pass your feedback/message to my patient - he will be pleased!
I do remember your post and pics from before, amazing to see as always! Plus your additional info regarding the plants. I bet the homegrown fruit is simply delicious!

I originally didn’t read it well. It’s your patient’s pineapple.

But, yes home-grown pineapple, papaya, bananas and mangoes are the best! I have lots of tropical guavas, but don’t eat them. I give them away. I used to have an 8 ft tall coffee tree for years (but it died in the drought, unfortunately 😞). The coffee cherries were really good. I don’t drink coffee, so I would give most of the coffee cherries away to a friend. I do have a seedling coffee that popped up a few years back (from my original tree). I used to get dozens of coffee seedlings under my coffee tree in winter.
