Sunny Saturday at the hospital last weekend.

I was covering the office on the Saturday, I'd had to pop over to the path lab...it was a nice stroll. Not many people about so I took a few snaps.
This planting is replicated all round the grounds, plus lots of other shrubs, roses, euonymus, ceanothus etc.
Lots of pretty Spring bedding, but I didn't get chance to take more pics as 'people' started appearing and I was approaching the frontage area. Didn't want to look strange! 😁

Kate, when I was in hospital last year, for about twelve days, the highlight was being allowed outdoors one day for half an hour! Even in a wheelchair, to feel the sun on my face and smell the flowers was a great tonic ... :o)

Ange, I'm pleased you like. We have a gardening group at the hospital that staff can join. I'd like to consider it, but I'm not there very often. I have to agree, a green outlook from your hospital bed is definitely a mental boost.
When I moved here in the late 90s, I worked at Castle Hill hospital. Back then, you'd look out the ward windows at night and it was like Watership Down - rabbits everywhere!!! Plus they still have peacocks wandering around.

Shirley, it must have been so therapeutic. Its can be so busy and stuffy on wards, getting out for a time is definitely good for mental health - helps with the recovery.

Very true, Julia, the power of plants!

Thanks Paul, I know what you mean!
I was driving past a beautiful Arts and Crafts house in Garden Village earlier on my way to yoga. I saw the most beautiful acer, it was illuminating. I was desperate to stop and take a pic, but, worried that I'd be spotted!

The cordylines look healthy Kate. I lost my main one in the low temps, but have young ones growing at the base.
Yes hospital gardens are so necessary and also pictures of plants and flowers in hospital corridors are very welcome too..

It has a true tropical look about it and must bring such joy to the patients and their families.
On a drive today I was thrilled to see all the different shades of green that are around at the moment. Truly wonderful to see.

What a lovely space for everyone to enjoy.

That's a pity, Ange. I'm keeping fingers crossed for my few cordylines. Good to hear you've a few new young ones growing.
I agree, having paintings and photos etc along corridor walls and in clinic treatment rooms, etc. Is soothing and beneficial. All part of the healing process.

Thanks Chris, it definitely does lend to the tropical.
It's great to get staff involved in the upkeep. Plus, it's good for staff mental health too.

Thanks Linda. I do think patients benefit. The front has some grass space with seats and tall trees. I see a lot of people out there in fine weather, even on blankets, chilling and soaking up the environment away from the wards..even if it's only a quick 15 mins!!! Both staff and patients benefit.

Some really attractive shrubs there Kate and the cherry trees..:))
There are some lovely little gardens at Castle Hill. When Ian was there, we used to enjoy the therapy gardens with lavender and all dry garden plants..really lovely planting..

You're spot on regarding CHH. It's set in lovely grounds - as long as they stop building!!!
The therapy gardens are really special as you say. The wildlife is an added bonus.

For 'municipal planting' it's quite adventurous. I like it. I was reading a book recently about the psychological benefits of gardening and it was saying how much better hospital patients tend to respond to treatments when they have greenery to look at rather than stark walls etc. But I'm sure you know that, Kate.
