Cornwall in November 1 Padstow

Cornwall in November 1 Padstow

I've tried to post a blog, but it won't post so I'll just send a few pics instead.
My friend Liz and I booked a few days away to Cornwall a while ago. As the date (November) drew closer we began to think the weather would not be so good, grey skies, lashing rain, pounding seas, photos in monochrome. But pleased to say, we were wrong and what a lovely few days we enjoyed..:)

Thank you girls, yes the weather was mild and sunny. Going across to Padstow you could see strips of rain, sunshine and rainbows. So pretty. It really is beautiful there.

Did you try Rick's fish and chips?

So many Rick Stein shops, Ange. We would have had we not been having supper later. The price, ahem, was as you would expect, expensive!

It's been years, but I once found a page on the net about Trebah Gardens, is my memory right? they're in Cornwall? anyway I wanted to see their "tumbling down to the sea" garden with cycads and the like. You take a chance with the "witch of November" .she's a force over here too! such a beautiful picture... when will you have the blog for us?

Lori, I’m sure Janey won’t mind if I reply to you, because I’ve been to Cornwall rather more often than her, as our son used to live in Falmouth. Yes, Trebah Gardens are in Cornwall, on a steep slope down to the sea, and well worth a visit. They’re very far west though, so it means a long drive.

Hello Lori, so lovely to see you here again..:) Oh yes Trebah gardens, they were a very popular place to visit quite a while ago Sheila?
Sorry if that's not the case, and its just that they're not advertised so widely now? I would really enjoy a visit to see them too. I would imagine a more Mediterranean garden with agaves etc?

You have Sheila, of course. Your lovely Steve and what a fantastic area he worked in, no wonder he loved it so.
Well Lori, for some reason the blog won't post, but we are on another visit in May to see more gardens, so I hope I can.post a blog then.

Years and years ago, I read the books by Derek Tange and fell.in love with Cornwall and their flower farm, his and Jeanie his wife's. They were a celebrated London couple, but spent the spring at the basic and frugally equipped farm, harvesting the daffodils for the Big Smoke. Gorgeous tales of pets and wildlife all living together in remote Cornwall.

Hi Sheila and Janey! thanks for the recommendation. I will have to look up Derek Tange... some good winter reading.

Janey, Trebah and Glendurgan gardens are next to each other so I can easily confuse them. But you definitely saw the best garden in Cornwall … Heligan. I well remember visiting it with Steve, and we both bought packets of seeds. His choice was Sequoia, the Giant Redwood, and he planned to build a boat from the trunk one day! Bless him 🙂.

Smashing capture here, Janey. Lovely to hear you both enjoyed your holiday.
Roll on your trip back next year to relish all those beautiful gardens!

I'm sure you'll enjoy reading his books Lori, very simple easy reading..:)

We'll visit Heligan in the summer Sheila, so looking forward to it as I've always wanted to see it..:) You must miss those visits so much Sheila, with your lovely boy..x

Thank you Kate, yes it will be a real treat!
