Black ice should be avoided at all costs!

aww bless hope you're okay!!!

Smiling for the camera, but very very annoyed that I slipped on black ice in the back garden on Saturday. I'd even tested the patio slabs before walking down to pull back some fleece that a squirrel had been hoping to bag, and the first slabs were fine. But then I got a shock and was on my back! Rolling over to stand up, I must have put pressure on my left wrist because I nearly screamed ... it was agony! However OH quickly provided an ice pack and made a sling from a scarf (the lady on the phone at 111 was impressed :)

Long story, but now I'm on regular doses of paracetamol which helps a lot. It's just very awkward only having the use of one hand - but at least it's the right hand. No break, but possibly a hairline fracture, so no driving for a while, but also no washing up! And plenty of time for reading instead of gardening ...

Stay safe everyone. xx

"Black ice should be avoided at all costs!"

I couldn't agree more with you, Sheila! I just commented on your blog wishing you get better quickly! When you said you had your arm in a sling I thought it was just a sprain or something but it looks to be rather more than that going by your photo!

Though I didn't break anything I did have a nasty fall on some black ice many years ago. I stepped on a piece of apparently ice free tarmac & whoosh! - feet in the air & head bangs on the ground! Fortunately I had a hood on, & I may have been wearing a woollen hat. I think that saved me from a cracked head & concussion!

Get well soon. 👍🏻

Sorry to see this Sheila, I hope your arm heals quickly.

Sheila, I hope it isn't too painful for you and that you will be free of that sling before too long. Michael and I have tested positive for Covid, he's on day six and I'm on my second day. No, I shall edit that as he's just shown me the LFT test for himself ... negative ... hooray!

I am so sorry Sheila and hope you start to feel a bit better soon!
It was good that your husband was so quick thinking.
If there is any time of year to have an accident ( no time is a good time) then this is it!
Take care x

Thanks David.
Thanks Julia … maybe 🙂.
Thanks Klahanie, so glad you didn’t fall.
Thank you Sheila.
Thanks Shirley, not good news for you two.
Exactly Rose, I’ve been saying just that. Plenty of time for reading now …

I hope you make a good recovery with your wrist Sheila. The healing process takes time but you'll get there. All the best...Linda x

Ditto to all the previous best wishes. It is so easily done & I’m glad that your other half was there to help. Get better soon & enjoy reading while some else washes up.😊

Thank you Linda and Josee, yes I just have to be patient.

The squirrel has been back, this time he managed to pull a large piece of fleece from another shrub, and pulled it along carefully in his teeth, walking backwards along the path. I could only admire his skill and persistence, and hope it’s keeping him warm!

Sorry you've had an injury Sheila, I hope you're not in too much pain.

Thank you very much Hywel. The pain comes and goes but paracetamol is helpful, and I’m lucky that it is my left wrist. I’m enjoying thinking about gardening rather than having to be outside in the cold!

Aw Sheila! I am sorry you slipped and hurt your arm. And isn't that typical, when your taking good care too. I do hope it mends soon but meanwhile, you can be waited on hand and foot..:) I do hope you can manage to sleep ok and it's not too painful. Much love xx

Thanks very much Janey, bless you. X

And you too, Ange, thanks for your good wishes. x

I’ve never seen such bruises … don’t worry, no more photos!

Sheila, I've just come on to GoY for first time in a couple of 3 weeks. So sorry to hear you have had a nasty fall, and a possible hairline fracture too. I can only imagine the pain when you had the slip on black ice!!! Thank goodness your husband had the savvy and skill to help.
I do hope you're not getting too frustrated, keep your chin up and think about Spring! Sending you my best wishes and a speedy recovery xx

Many thanks Kate, unfortunately it’s very painful, but paracetamol every four hours does help. I can imagine the frustration if it was the right wrist, so at least I am coping!
