Well, here it is! my new ‘Garden’ yikes!

Well, here it is! my new ‘Garden’ yikes!

We moved in on Sunday when Scott arrived after his long haul from Angus with a Luton Van full of our stuff. He didn’t get it all in, and he broke 2 of my plant pots en route, but that’s only a teeny hitch. We unloaded and then made two more trips to the flat to bring everything over from there including all my courtyard plants. Amazingly the boys managed to get my ten foot Fatsia here in one piece. Sadly the Red Camellia was badly damaged. Hey ho. At the moment the weather is wet, so lots of time for measuring and on line shopping for furniture and storage solutions! We are very happy with the house though which is a relief after buying off plan, never having seen an actual house like it! Lots of snagging to be done of course. There always is. But we will just have to be patient. It’s lovely being a five minute walk from Rachel and her family. Oh, yesterday I planted six hydrangeas in my front garden! So some gardening has been done!

Glad you're in your new home at last. Your OH is a gem for doing all that driving. Was it hard making the decision of which plants to bring with you?

No Ange. It was easy. We couldn’t bring anything from Scotland whatsoever. There just wasn’t any room in the car. I even had to leave all my potted plants and their pots. It was tough, but the new owners will enjoy them I hope. So every plant we have is from the courtyard at the flat, or I have bought it since September. I bought a Coronilla for my front door, and some baby hydrangea ‘Confetti’ for underneath my front window where the builder has planted some Liriope Muscari. I left two plants at the flat, just to brighten the courtyard up a bit. I left my Chilean Lantern tree and a Coprosma which I didn’t really care for. Some of the plants and pots I left in Scotland had a lot of sentimental value…Scott’s Dad’s pot etc. it’s hard that I couldn’t bring them. But themes the breaks. At the end of life we leave everything, so I am practising letting go in a big way! Preparation for eternity. When I said ‘it was easy’ I meant I had no choice! :)

I second that! You will soon have it looking like a garden again and if you are anything like me, will enjoy it!

Well done Karen. Glad you are safely in your new home. Plenty of spring and summer to get the new garden underway. I'm sure it will be fab by the time you have finished. Don't forget to try and have a rest between tasks as moving home can be very tiring. Good luck and God bless. Linda x

I agree with Linda … do take a break when you can. So much to look forward to!

Definitely a blank canvas for you!!! You'll have it looking beautiful soon, Karen. Brimming with lush planting.
Good to hear you've planted up some hydrangeas out front, I'll bet you felt pretty pleased to get started! Just take care, you're still in recovery!
I can imagine you're so happy to be near your family too! All good!!!!!

I understand the sentiment, Karen. I often think if I started another garden I would like to begin from scratch - very freeing. I feel that way about things in the house, too!

Thanks everyone. I am being very mindful of how ill I was just a few weeks ago, and Scott and Rachel keep reminding me too. It’s all very tiring, but there’s only so much we can do as we need items to be delivered before we can move forwards. So really we are forced to take a break for a day or so. It is tough though, as we both want to get on with things. But this afternoon I spent a couple of hours painting a tall lampshade which was a really lovely way to pass time!
