Sorry to hear that, Kate. I have just bought a cheap alpina from a certain supermarket. I have been looking for it for ages having lost a couple before and for £2, boy, is it growing now! I will post a pic. Maybe worth your while looking one out to try. Not much lost if you fail. I shall grow it on until the Autumn when I will plant it out.

This one is in the border beside the patio in horrible rough soil but happily climbs round the corner onto the support, Klahanie. I feed and water it well. I find the alpinas and viticellas the easiest to grow.
