Hosta time again.

Hosta time again.

Brian the Snail is looking after them ... no damage ... yet!

Looking good, Shirley. Funnily enough I was potting one on yesterday. We bought a blue one in the week (unnamed) like yours from the usual supermarket - £5 if anyone is interested. They had a good selection, as long as you don't want details on the plant you are purchasing!

He certainly maintains them free from attack!

Lovely selection there. I expect Brian's size keeps the other snails away....

Ange, I bought a 4 pack of Fuchsia and a 6 pack of Nemesia in one of the German supermarkets for a fraction of the price a garden centre or nursery would charge.

The Clematis was from a British supermarket and must have just been put on display as it was looking so healthy!

Julia, I may need to get some coffee grounds next time we're out for a coffee as they definitely kept the slugs and snails away last year.

Linda, he's quite a size isn't he?!!

Looking pretty lush there, Shirley! OH dug our 3 up and disposed of them last year. They were nibbled to pieces. The leaves were all torn and ragged looking, sadly.
One of my patients mentioned last week, he uses those stainless steel wire ball scrubbing ball sponge things!!!! Sorry for the mouthful!
He unravels them and opens them up to form a circle around a plant. The slugs and snails won't cross this. He's given me some, which I'll try. He uses them on his veg patches too.

That sounds like a brilliant idea, Kate, from your patient. You've got to love them a lot to make the effort, though!!

The snails and slugs have managed to find most of ours already I’m afraid so it’s another typical year at our house!!

They all look so healthy Shirley and must get some coffee grounds to see if it will work on my lupins.

Kate, such a shame your Hostas were nibbled to pieces. I keep a couple of those wire scrubby things (technical term!) in the greenhouse for washing out the bird baths so I shall give it a go if any Hosta leaves start looking holey.
You have to wonder how folk find these things work ... :o))

Oh Chris, aren't they just a pain to start devouring yours already ... :o(

Give it a go Rose, trial and error for keeping the critters off the plants we love!
