beautiful bird - and you look to have got quite close to it?

This one had beautiful markings. He came very close to us and hung out the whole time we were in this area. A lot of the wildlife in Yosemite are very friendly. They're used to getting handouts from humans. We're not supposed to feed the wildlife, but a lot of people do. Plus, the animals know that a lot of humans are messy and leave food/garbage behind. They wait till we leave and then have a snack themselves. Or in the case of the squirrel I mentioned ealier... they just hop up in your lap and try to share your meal right then and there :)

What a magnificent bird!

I get these fellows in my garden. I love them. They have a very distinctive call.

We get Scrub Jays here. They are not nearly as attractive as these.

The Jays we get in the Uk are really nothing like this. They do have a bit of blue on them, but it's just a bar of blue on the wing and they are fairly shy birds - usually just see them flying away from you in the woods!
