Giant Coleus

Just bought this today. Have you ever seen such a HUGE Coleus?! Stuck my hand in the picture to give it some scale - the big leaves are bigger than my hand-span. I'm hoping to be able to propagate it and keep it going over the winter. The man that sold it to me said it required a long growing season. He told me the variety, but I can't remember it now - think it was something like 'Goring' (Sure it began with a G). Any ideas anyone?

Thanks F1 - I did look on the web to see if I could ID it. Didn't see any that looked like this one, but I did see the Kong Series plants. Maybe it's a new one?

Have you had it flower yet??????????????????

It's got a flower bud in the centre. One of the others at the stall had already opened and it was a very pretty pale blue. :-)

WOW! How magnificent Sarah! What a bargain! That was more like a steal!! What a prize to be proud of!

Over here in the States it is labeled kong coleus 'giant rose', from the Kong series plants. There is also a Kong 'giant red', this one doesn't have the fuschia pink in the center of each leaf. Hope this helps.

Nice one, Sid.
but I'll make the same remark to you,
as I did for one of Peter's pictures the other day....
For a keen gardener, you have AMAZINGLY clean finger nails. LOL

Ha ha ha - not today tho! Will have to give them a good scrub as got work tomorrow! No really, I do find it so very difficult to keep clean ;-)

That look spectacular!

It was, Ualda! The parent plant didn't do too well over the winter and eventually died. But I had taken two cuttings in the summer and they are both doing very well - not quite as big as 'mum' yet, but getting there!
