This tree is in my front side yard. The leaves are light weight and flutter with the slightest breeze. The rock piles to either side are boulders I have dug up as I prepare to plant anything. My front yard was a parking lot for school buses in the 50s and 60 when my building was the High School Band room.. The building then became four full apartments (Two up and two down readejahn) The building later housed the probation office so you can imagine how "packed" my soil was after being used as a parking lot for so many years. Well, not only was the soil packed but the whole area was partially back filled with these boulders. Some weigh 60 to 100 pounds. Then I have to ask a neighbor to lift the rock out of the hole so I can backfill with decent soil..

And I thought I had a lot of rocks here...goodness...I rake rocks out of my horse paddocks and round pen incessantly but nothing the size you have there...Yowzers!

If someone had told me I was going to have to dig up so many boulders, I probably would have left the land bare and grown everything in pots.

With the history of your plot, have you dug up anything interesting in addition to all the boulders?

I have given it a thought now and then as I keep digging but so far not a thing....no treasures....no bones....just rocks and boulders.

Wow...my heart bleeds for you Skippy, I believe I just found someone who is more addicted to gardening than I am...lol. Even I wouldn't be as brave or dedicated as you are ! Best of luck honey, we're all pulling for you !

Hi Skippy ~
I knew if I left that comment, you would work it out ~
All that rock-digging understandably grinds you down for a while, but you'll always bounce back. :o)
As Flcrazy says, you have true dedication.

Skippy I sure hope you don't have caliche as well as boulders. My experience with it is you have to break it up with a jack hammer or plant all raised beds!

I had that caliche junk in New River but it was 5-6 feet under the surface. My plants flourished in spite of it because it was so deeply located.

The caliche of my experience was less than two inches under - I thought they had built my house on a huge rock. lol. I almost gave up gardening before I ever started.
