I want my dinner! (nothing to do with gardening - sorry!)

I love the way they try to get us dumb humans to understand what they want and the amount of patience they have in waiting for us to get the thought...LOL

Any consolation its windy wet and wild here, after a brief sunny start.
Keep having to get up earlier to see daylight in garden as dark by time I get home.

Catfinch - Henry has his own language, and he usually knows the time, too. If I am late with his food he shadows me and gives me a nudge or two as a heavy hint!

Henry is beautiful and so good. When Chloe decides it's dinner time she sits in front of me and 'talks'. When she was younger she used to beg (she just did it, I didn't teach her) but now she just waves her front feet in the air a few times!

My dogs do not have a dinner time...there is a bowl of food and water out at all times..they choose when to eat..nobody is overweight or piggley about it so it works out fine. treats are another matter...LOL...

He's very patient. If I don't give Blodyn her food when she wants it she starts to shread the furniture. She's a bit like me - if I feel like something to eat I have it . If I don't I don't.
I suppose dogs are diferent.

Labradors are very different! They are prone to putting on weight very easily, as they live for food. We certainly couldn't put food down and let him decide when to eat! It would all be gone by the time you'd turned round! We have to weigh out his food and his treats are rationed as well. Labs can suffer with arthritis in their hips and really suffer if allowed to get over-weight. We're pleased when the vet weighs him and says he's fine.

Yes, Henry looks slimmer than many other pet Labradors. Well done on keeping him to a sensible size. Not easy with their permanent appetites for anything and everything :o)

Last (routine) vet visit, she commented that he needed treats to help to keep his teeth clean - and added 'Of course, you'll have to cut his food down'.... poor Henry, it's a dog's life! (LOL)

Beryl's brother had a labrador called Honey. She was almost too fat to move like his wife. She had too much stodge and next to no excercise. - just like his wife.

Poor Honey. That's just cruel. Humans have a choice - dogs don't.

There was a fat Lab living just up the lane - she was so fat she couldn't get UNDER the stiles, or jump OVER, so her owner just ambled round one field (the nearest one) for her exercise. He told me one day that she had a roast dinner AND chinese take-aways with them!!!!! I reckon my face was a picture...

They've moved away - so I don't know what she's like now.

Omg! Our new Border Terrier (Lucky) is so regulated, as far as food is concerned. He just gets his measured daily allowance and, when it's gone,it's gone! They learn so fast, however, to turn on the mournful eyes look, and whimpering with one paw raised, lol! But we don't give in! He goes out in the garden at our mealtimes.

I don't know how true it is but aren't you supposed to feed according to weight? Labradors seem to put weight on easily, and is it because some don't get the proper exercise they get plump....they are bred for taking out with the shoot aren't they? so that they can gather up the birds when shot and they are on the go all day. It's like the border collies, they need an awfully large amount of exercise really as they were bred for rounding up and gerneral use with sheep on the hills.
Your labrador Henry looks just right and he looks like a very patient boy.

I thnk people try to feed cats as if they were dogs - at certain times. It doesn't work like that with cats. If they only get fed at certain times they'll go rummaging in bins or go into neighbours' houses.
My cats always get just a little bit of food when they want it. It stops them roaming around looking for it. They seem to eat just enough when they need it. And if they don't want it they won't eat it.
Sorry to talk about cats. I've never had a dog. It's interesting to see how diferent they are.

My 3 cats are fed Little &Often 2 Hywel :) Summer has Tinned Dog Meat In Morning & helps herself2 Her Doggy Senior Bisciuts in Eveing if she gets Hungry :)

Yes, Linda, that's true to a certain extent. That's why we weigh out Henry's dry food each morning. He had to have his daily 'allowance' cut down a bit after he had 'the chop', as male dogs can put on weight after that for some reason. This was the vet's advice and we are very careful with his diet - very few treats.

We hope he thoroughly enjoyed his Lasagne cheese sauce treat. We bet there was lots of dribbling going on! Our handsome friend.

I have had labs before cannot remember ever doing anything different...my daughter had a big Golden...no problems there that I can think of..now my friend has a big white lab...he is only around 8 months old..will help keep a watch on that one....seems he just is fed like all the others...just put it out and that is pretty much it, they all eat from the same bowls, we usually have 3 out in different places inside and outside...they all seem to just eat when they are hungry....I know puppies can be bad about not knowing when to quit and so can horses..I have had cats, Hywel that are over eaters...not any now...we did have a gal that would stay and eat till the last crumb was gone and we had to pull her off but she is the only one I have ever had like that. Larry is a very large Main Coon..not fat...very large and actually does not eat anymore than the other two cats..
