Who are you looking at?

Calling Canada, calling Canada......1" of snow fell in England today and country ground to a halt. Any tips how we might survive; this could be the end of us.

Take care!

Canada here....I really don't know what to tell you...We had 20 cm on New Year's Day which was not too bad as most people were in no hurry to get moving then anyway. I am sure your 1" will disappear soon. It is sunny and milder here today and the snow is indeed melting. Keep off the roads if you can help it!

We had a quarter inch of snow in my neighbourhood.
Don't worry ~ well-stocked up with supplies for dog, budgie and myself.
Can survive being snowed in here till the big thaw takes place :o)

Oh NO.....I hope you are stocked up on food and drinking water Ams. You may not be able to leave home for a while. If you do, you could always make snowshoes by strapping dustbin lids to your feet. Wrap a cat around your neck to keep warm. Don't forget, if the snow gets too deep you'll have to shovel off the roof or it will collapse. Watch out for falling icicles too. Don't do what I saw a lady doing yesterday. She was knocking the 2 ft icicles off her eaves with a broom handle while standing directly beneath them and looking up.

Gilli, what a silly lady.....Kids will want to eat those (I know I did after a big storm when the snow was high and I could reach them). hehe.
I guess it's all what you're familiar with, Ams. But I'm sure with only 1" of snow, anyone with a good hairdryer could clear their yard! lol.

Hair-raising! The only solution is to make a snowman. Should be about enough snow for one about 3 inches tall. LOL

Good idea Weeds11, I could do some clever visual trickery and fool you all ;-)

Baaahhh humbug.....as scrooge would say.....We have only had a dusting of the white stuff although the pavements have been tricky to walk along. I always fill the freezer with food nearer end of December in case the weather turns really bad, although it never really does. Although it does seem to have been a lot colder this year so far.I reckon I store food like a squirrel for the winter months.

It is amazing that if we suffer the slightest deviation in weather the countries infrastructure collapses: freezing water mains bursting; wrong type of snow on railway lines cancelling trains. In a heat wave tarmac melts and rail lines buckle cancelling trains.

I think that we should visit countries that have a lot of snow and really have to cope with it all then bring back the ideas here, but we don't do we!!!!

I love your sheep pic. Are they yours? They have a warm place in my heart. My great-grandfather had some and they followed me everywhere when I visitied him.
On the snow front... We got 6 inches last night. I love it this time of year. Come end of March and April I'm ready for it to go away!!!

Last year Gerry and I and two neighbours and their son herded some escapee sheep back down the road into their field, but it took some time to get them back safely as they kept on dividing up, it was early in the morning and not much traffic on the road thank goodness!!!

RBTP, no the sheep are not mine but graze in a field at the end of the village. My county Cambridgeshire is virtually 100% arible farming so there is very few livestock farming in this region.

Lindak, sheep can out run and out jump us any day, I reckon they were just playing with you ;-)

It was an experience....could have done with a collie dog to help........At least no sheep or humans were hurt in the round up.

I live across the pond Ams and guess what, traffic, not to mention our entire normal way of life comes to a screeching halt with an inch of snow too... lol. I'm feeling really close to you right now..., kindred spirits...lol. Love your photo, I could stand about a ton of that sheep's wool about now too...;-)

Flcrazy ~ nice to know you feel close to us over here :o)
Your photos of flowers and wildlife are a delight.

Three weeks on from the surprise snowfall, and Ams and I are just about recovering. Lol. Our supplies are a bit depleted. I'm venturing out in the cold tomorrow to stock up on budgie seed and other essentials.

How is it with you, Ams ? Thawing out ?

Well TT, I managed to blow the snow off my house roof with my hair dryer to prevent it collapsing my house as Gilli and Newfie suggested ;-) Might be safe to venture out now.

Lol..you know I was joking!! :P
I am posting some pics of some snow clearing that maybe you guys could have used. ;)

Glad to hear you two survived it with little suffering, quick thinking Ams for using the hairdryer for the snow on the roof. Whew....., that could have been a close call, thank goodness I've read this post, now I know what to do ! I'm off to stock my pantry, never know when a full inch of snow might fall during the night and have me snowed in for a week ! Thanks for the tips Gilli and Newfienurse, you are both lifesavers, I owe you one !....LOL.

Anytime I can be of help Flcrzy....just let me know. LOL.
