I live in a rural village called Great Abington 10 miles south of the famed Cambridge University. A village resident called John Mortlock (died 1816) made his fortune as a boroughmonger and later went on to open the first bank in Cambridge. He was helped by the then plague of highwaymen; travellers between London and Cambridge could now obtain credit at each end of their journey without having to carry cash on them. Although Mortlock was very popular it is believed that he conspired with highwayman Jeremiah Lagden who also lived in Great Abington, passing on information about rich dinner guests who might be travelling into Cambridge. On reporting their encounter they would have been advised to keep their money safe in Mortlock’s Bank.
To cut a long story short…Lagden is the emblem of our village today and enjoys a strange respectable status. Isn't it good now that thieves do not prosper and Bankers would not deceive their investors !!!!!!!!!!! Jeremiah Lagden is lurking await in the tree Catfinch and Panther so be careful out there.

hmmmm...I like Shrek better..but if this is the story..it is Jeremiah...shame on you both Jeremiah Lagden & John Mortlock... Things never seem to change do they Ams?..when it comes to greediness...too bad...shame on you bankers of today! It is no wonder there are those who went through the Great Depression here in my Grandparents day who would never trust the banks to their dying day....would rather keep their money in a sock or a tin can buried in back yard!....maybe I need to go start diggin ...could be some tins cans of money out there...where is my shovel...pic ax...yes lots of rocks round here...k...got my gloves...I'm off to dig...Jeremiah Lagden...get back in your trees..I am sure there will not be enough for you to report to anyone...

I think I am rich in the fact that I am content with a modest lifestyle and enjoy excellent general health. Avarice must make one very discontent with life. If you find a buried treasure in the yard I am sure you deserve it - go dig.
30 Jan, 2009
Ha...no time for digging...enjoying my modest life in excellent health..packing boxes right now.....but I may dig if I ever find the time...LOL...I do have a metal detector...hmmm...yesss!...that could help...LOL..
