~have you got a hide out there,Eileen? What is coming up in the pot already?

6 Jan, 2009

Yes, a wren ! As Jacque says, they are usually very rapid in disappearing.

Arlene - good thinking. Eileen must have some sort of secret hideaway to get these fab photos.
AND a mild climate with all those bulbs peeking through. LOL

Fabulous little bird. Have you ever seen or maybe remember the farthing coin?

7 Jan, 2009

~the worry is that we are seeing more birds because their food sources are diminished~perhaps because of the bad weather~unfortunately it is not a good sign~keep feeding everyone!

I had a wren nest in one of my hanging baskets the year before last :-)

9 Jan, 2009

I love wrens, they are so tiny and cute!

And very brave when protecting their young. Once saw one trailing her "broken" wing. She was luring a cat away from her babies. Good job she was so very quick and flew off safely when the cat pounced.

isnt that amazing when they pretend to be injured

The wren in the hanging basket was a bit of a nuisance coz of watering - but it was facinating to watch it - it would be so careful that nobody of looking when it went to the nest and then would 'walk' up the wall to get at it, not fly. It didn't lay eggs in the nest and ended up abandoning - I've since read that wrens build several nests in different places before chosing which one to actually use - so this one was one of the rejects! It was just as well, so I could water my hanging basket properly!
