I just checked out your photo and it looks exactly the same - so I think it must be the cocky apple. Thanks!

Yeah we do get the 'apples' although I've never tried to taste-test them.

Bernieh:
This is a very pretty tree! I just read that they can be grown in So. California.
We do grow so many Australian native trees and plants...it's unbelievable.

Yes I find it astounding too that so many of what we consider Aussie plants grow so well elsewhere - but of course many of them originally came from other parts of the world anyway. The cocky apple grows wild where I live - it just pops up everywhere and while it sits unnoticed most of the year, when it flowers it does stand out.

Bernieh:
We grow more Eucalyptus species in California than any place in the World outside Australia. Almost every photo I take there's Eucalyptus trees in the background. It's pretty much thought of as a native tree and has naturalized everywhere except our highest mountains.

Its beautiful can they be grown in Wales (uk). If They can I wouldn't mind having a go they are loveley. by the way I've had a gander at your photos and I think they are marvellous. particularly the wallabies and the bush babies. Tref.

Hi Tref - I'm not sure about growing the Cocky Apple (Planchonia careya) over there. I know it grows up here in the northern parts of Queensland but I haven't heard about it growing anywhere else. You're right though it does have a rather unusual but beautiful flower.

We also get the sunbirds Nectarinia jugularis here , I love their nests ,my daughter/carer joined GOY as well , before me in fact ,she drew my attention to it Her name on GOYis Maggie P . She has posted pics . she is the picture taken as myself being disabled and paralyzed on my right side I cannot operate a camera.

Well it's great that you found this site Pitta - it's a lot of fun here. There's so many really friendly gardeners with a wealth of knowledge and information to share. I just love seeing all the plants and gardens from all the different corners of the world.
I had worked out that Maggie was perhaps your daughter - it's good to know there's someone there helping you out and providing some care. I've also checked out your website - just quickly - and you have a fabulous wet tropics garden. I bet it's a great source of pleasure for you. Will have to spend more time going through those photos.
As you can see from my photos - my garden is definitely in the dry tropics, and I'm out in bushland.
There's plenty of sunbirds around here and we've had their nests in some strange places over the years - they're quite amazing structures and built with such patience.
