26 Jan, 2009

Robins are quarelsome. I wish they were as friendly to each other as they are with humans. But that's nature I supose.

Roger Robin, there you are! Taking advantage of Irish's garden, you've not been in my garden for ages, now I know why!

Perhaps this is Benny,s mate and Benny is off looking at nesting sites , just like Cyril , Oh I hope so Eileen ..........

26 Jan, 2009

Of course Eileen we have no idea if Benny male or female but if both males think Benny would have objected to this chap - so may not be a bad sign that not seeing them together.

26 Jan, 2009

but i miss Benny lol, he was so tame

26 Jan, 2009

Aww Eileen how long has he been away ?

26 Jan, 2009

few weeks now BB

26 Jan, 2009

Oh that is a long time Eileen - sadly Robins have very short life span , heres hoping he s Ok but then if a she may have been lured elsewhere.

Lets think he a she and gone off to build a love nest. You still have a robin though and your lovely goldcrest.

26 Jan, 2009

true BB, lets think positive

26 Jan, 2009

Will do and hopefully he / she will return - we have starlings and they decimate mealworms if put out during the day. Robins often the last to roost so if you put out treats for them late in the day you might just tempt him back.....we do this for our robin and wagtail to make sure the greedy birds dont get them all.

26 Jan, 2009

good thinking. the blackbird copped on to where i leave the mealworms for the robin

26 Jan, 2009

Oh they do Eileen but robins been known to sing almost when dark so will come late ' 4.30 ish just as getting dark and others have gone.

I give blackbirds plenty of fruit and the starlings get plenty of fat - so they not getting the mealworms !

26 Jan, 2009

Let's hope Benny is OK wherever he is.

26 Jan, 2009

Sending good thoughts to Benny wherever he is. :o(

awww...Irish...I know how you feel...I was so happy when Jacky popped in the back door looking for his bread and milk!! I'm sure when it's warmer Benny will show up! Benny come home!

27 Jan, 2009

thanks Lori

Your lucky Bonkersbon. When I put mealworms out for the robins a squadron of RAF starlings home in using their highly developed radar and scoff the lot.

28 Jan, 2009

Aye they ll do that here Toto so we only put mealworms out late in the day as find starlings leave quite early to roost. If any left over night the little ones get them first thing too.. of course your squadron may have a different wing commander !

love this picture. aren't they just the sweetest of all our birds? Have noticed that ours now goes on the bird feeder. Aren't they usually groundfeeders. Sorry you're missing a loved bird. Don't give up hope.

Just seen our little robin, sitting on the broken fence at the bottom of the garden in the snow. It's snowing quite heavily at the moment.I went to the pet shop to get Peter the rabbit some hay and sawdust this morning and silly me, went and left my sheepskin gloves there......

2 Feb, 2009

thanks Joeanne, i have seen this one a few times at the bird table but not on the feeders i have hanging from the trees

2 Feb, 2009

aw no Linda, will they still be there if you go back?

2 Feb, 2009

I phoned the shop up and the young man there is going to keep them to one side for me until I go again. There is a grey parrot there that I always say hello to. He is quite a character. I have just put up a robin box on the side of the garage. The robin may not nest in it as the garden is bare of anything at the moment. I have dug three quarters of the veggie patch now and am going to get some compost to mix in as the top soil is very shallow and the sub soil is clay and not too good.

2 Feb, 2009

glad to hear your gloves will be still there for you Linda.
sounds like you got quiet a bit done today

I did the digging two days ago before the snow. We have two inches of the stuff and it took me quite a while to get it off the car today as it was very icy. Everywhere looks very pretty though. I have decided to paint a picture and continue to get the house in some sort of order after getting the kitchen straight again. Looks nice and bright having the light wood on the units.
