Strange stone collection

Love these ...look ancient..

These look very interesting - have they come from different places you've visited?

I like the one on the back right. Are those little holes? Looks like a wasp's nest to me. Maybe a wasp nest fossil ;~)

The one in the back right hand side is a coral I'm sure Amy.

My husband picks them up from off the land when he is collecting soil samples for analysis ..
We have been told that the one on the right is limestone and the holes have been caused by rain water constantly dripping over a perid of time .. not sure if thats true or not !

We have some other completley round stones that weigh exactly a pound we were told that they were cannon balls also some smaller ones half the size , hubby brings all the round ones home to put round the water feature ..

Funny thing is he,s never found anything of value .... LOL ....

But they are valuable Amy, because they're unique! Won't find them in anyone else's garden. I love stones as garden ornaments and have "stolen" several from around the British Isles and each has a memory of lovely holidays.

Shirley ...We have some huge flint stones that a farmer had to haul out of his field and very kindly let us have with a fossel of a sea shell in one of them !

The top right one looks like coral to me . Each little round bit is where a polyp lived. They grow in colonies like that. It's formed of calcium carbonate which is secreted by the polyps.

You are probably right Hywel and the fact that we have some flint with a fossil of a sea shell in it shows that we were not far from water at one time ....:o)

Come to think of it we have a sea urchin shell somewhere !

I like interesting stones too, Amy. They have character! I'd love to find a really good ammonite on our beach! There are lots of large rocks with ammonite marks but I haven't found anything I could carry home as yet.

Thats a shame Spritz .. the nearest beach we have with anything like treasure on it is Southwold where you can search for Amber . They have one day in the year where they put small pieces on the beach and the children have to go in search of it ....

How quirky, My son also collects stones and fossils mainly from the coast around Whitby, like the idea of a treasure hunt for the children wouldnt mind joining in I love amber!

You would like the Amber shop that they have in Southwold PP , it,s mostly jewelry theres such a huge choice ... Southwold is in Suffolk so we don,t go there to often !
