This is wonderful and again I'm reminded about how I would like to add a pond in my back yard.

Love your pond design with the extended bridge. Perfect place to sit and feed the fish...!

You have a 'magical place' place, Lori. Does that splash of blue give you ideas? ;) I'd be tempted, and it wouldn't be the first time that a bright splash of plastic or a bright coat left on the ground has set me thinking about colour combos.

Hi Wellies! love your handle...lol
The blue element (my pond filtre aside) is in the foreground and to the left. I have Echinops ritro and Delphiniums with Asiatic Lillies, for a pink'n'blue combo...but didn't time it right...the delphs came up and bloomed before the Echinops and Lillies had a chance to start... mea culpa. To the left and nearest the fence and trellis is a blue Lobelia...(a native prairie plant) I have a pic on my page..it has the most lovely sky blue flowers...In fact, my passion is blue flowers...I'm waiting patiently for the true blue rose...lol. That's just a joke, because I don't care for overly hybridized stuff usually. The Lobelia is a wild flower in parts of the American central plains area of N.A. and the plant that I have resembles salvias... In the picture post the lobelia is just about finished...all the blossom is on the top part of the stock...but when they are fully abloom they are outstanding.

Could you grow a blue salvia in Ontario Lori?
23 Mar, 2008
Oh yes...I have seen pictures of it growing in a garden in Ottawa which is north of me 96 km. I also have one in my garden but Mandy lay down on it. It was a little crushed and now it has all this snow on it...hope it is alive under the snow... I prefer the blue of the lobelia...and want to acquire a lobelia cardinalis.

Hi Lori~ I love your pond, any fish? I used to have a pond when I lived in California but I don't have one here in England yet. Even though my husband has a pond filter manufacturing company........go figure!!!! Maybe this summer.

Hi Yellowleaf...the pond as it appears in this pic no longer exists...it has changed...you will have to see my blogs Pond Slogging and Pond Slogging the Sequel...lol... This pond was completely frozen over in a late winter storm in March 2008 and my 60 or so goldfishes were suffocated because the snow was so deep and the ice so thick that I couldn't get an air hole made so that the gases could escape... long story short...I had a terrible mess on my hands when the ice melted...made some major changes (both pond and landscaping) and chronicled it in the blogs..

It is a great resource,I hope we won't be losing you for too long, you have a great deal of knowledge (reading through your blogs) and a lovely simple way of explaining things ,a rare talent, if you don't mind me saying so.
I liked the blog on soil testing. take care of yourselves and have a good move!

Oh my ...I will have a swelled head now, won't I? Very kind of you.

that looks amazing - I wanted a walkway across the water - but we do not have big enough pond - the flowers compliment it nicely - just to confirm what are the pink ones called - they are very nice (ones closest to as you look at picture)

also the red ones in corner
6 Nov, 2010
Thanks Paul! The red ones in the corner are dwarf dahlias, I dig the roots up every autumn and store them in peat moss over winter. Plant them back out in May or June, (as soon as the soil warms sufficiently)...the pink ones are a big fav of mine, they're Astilbe. I garden in Canada so I'd recommend checking them out on BBC plant sites. Cheers!
