We are finding this difficult to understand TT , he has been calling for a mate for ages , the other young pheasant is his son and has been with him this last year , to young we think for breeding and yet he almost treats them both as if he is their parent , he keeps guard , watches over her while she eats , rounds them up and makes them go away when he wants , I love watching them ....... this is all 6ft from my back door !

Sounds like you'll be able to write a book on bird behaviour !
How interesting to watch all this happening so close to home !
Maybe it's a "threesome". Lol.

He's all puffed up and showing off! Lovely colours on them Amy. I've not seen mine for a couple of days, may-be he'll have a lady friend when he returns. :)

He pulls himself up straight , fluffs all his feathers out and looks magnificent BB
The different colours on him are gorgeous when the sun shines on him , he does look very proud .
He dosn,t like my voice , if my hubby calls him to feed he comes running , if I call him he goes the other way , so I have learnt to shake the feed box without saying anything , he hears that and comes and I keep quiet , He obviously dosn,t like a womans voice .... LOL ...

Ooo look @ Charlie with his New Bird lol :) Shes a very Pale Coloured Hen Pheasant isnt she Amy ? Does Snowball still have her Dove friend ? :)
25 Mar, 2009
Yes she does Jacque but the Dove has a close partner now , Snowball will have to go and find a mate of her own :o)
We were wondering about the colouring of the new Lady Jacque , do you think shes one of those hand reared ones ? ..

Brilliant photo what agreat variety of birds, we used to have Pheasants visit us when we lived at the cottage and one of the females was the same light colours as yours.

You were lucky as well PP , it,s nice that they should feel happy to visit .
The pale colour isn,t so unusual then , there,s proberly a lot that colour in the fields , they are so well camouflaged that we don,t notice them !

fascinating to read about Junior's behavour - maybe by protecting Dad's partner, he'll be protecting future broods and so increase the chances of the family genes being passed along? Will be interesting to see how his behavour changes when there are eggs, and chicks.
Oh, see this was a couple of years ago; is there an update in photo or blog?

It's very difficult finding somewhere private to go courting.
Everywhere is so busy these days...... :o)
Charlie saw her face across a crowded garden...
... and it was love at first sight.
