Yes it's from downunder and you're right Arlene, it belongs to the evergreen flowering plant family - the proteas. Well done Milky it's beautiful.

No I cheated with this one Amy it was a small shrub when I got it. But I will keep an eye on it this year to see if it does make seeds.....

Milky:

It is nice to see this plant growing in England...it must be very hardy. These plants are extremely common in California. They are very drought tolerant and bloom most of the year. Can you grow Grevillea robusta - Silk Oak tree where you live?

I would Think that we can Andy, as it is very hardy, and I do have 2 types of Callistemon, surviving in the garden, along with the grevellea,

Milky:

How tall do Grevillea robusta - Silk Oak grow in England, I'm curious?

Callistemon species are very hardy also...they have naturalized in many area here and are still planted everywhere. Of course, because of their drought tolerance.

I think Andy that its probably only grown as a pot plant over here because of our longer wetter winters................

Milky:

I would think they could grow outside there...I know they tolerate temps to at least 20 degrees F/ -6 degrees C. generally temps below that will defoliate the tree.

The Silk Oaks are all in full bloom here right now with their orange flowers...I'll have to post some photos soon. It's a little difficult sometimes to get a good photo because the trees are so very tall and large commonly growing over 100 feet / 31 meters tall.
