Thanks Michaella, It's very usefull to screen an ugly wall and is much loved by the bees. It's right outside my kitchen window so I get to view it every time I do the washing up!

Now I'm going to have to buy another clematis for for my garden! A stunning plant, I dont have a macropetala, my neighbours two year old plant flowered for the first ( not as good as yours) and I liked it but now I've seen yours I'm smitten.I'm off to the garden centre!

I dont know if it is still on but The Guardian plant offers had three Alpine clematis on offer, Macropetela Blue, Rosie Ogrady, pink, and Alba, white with yellow stamens, all three for six ninety five plus pp and I think you got some free begonias as well. It should be available on line if you Google it.

Hi Avis, I am looking for another clematis to cover a fence under a tree and "Princess Diana" is one I was looking at.
Do you have one and does it grow quite big?

WHen do you prune this clematis and how much by when they get too big. I had one in my other garden and they are really lovely but I pruned it wrong and it died.

Hi Lindak,
I have never pruned this clematis as I wanted it to cover my garage wall. This is its fourth season and this one plant now covers the entire side of my garage, although since I took this photo the long tendrils you can see in the photo have kept growing and are getting a little out of hand, I think I will just tidy it up a bit at the weekend. It was planted deep in a bed which had lots of manure and organic matter in it and so far I have not had to feed it or give it any other attention.

I have one in a pot now in our small front garden and it's got a few flowers on it but I shall have to contain it by cutting it back a bit. Hope I don't kill it!!!!!

I bought another one later on and it died but I cut it back took it out of the pot and buried it in the soil. It has grown to three feet high.
