Snail Vine Blossom (Phaseolus caracalla)

Snail Vine Blossom (Phaseolus caracalla)

The blossoms on a snail vine are quite fascinating when viewed up close and personal. This vine quickly takes over and is quite prolific.

What a fabulous flower - so different.

It is very different. They are about an inch and a half across which seems rather small but the vine is packed full of potential

The flower is definitely prettier than the bud! Great colour too.

I agree, the bud looks less appealing, Gee.

Very pretty colour and I love the way the centre petals curl round....

It is very fascinating. I have ordered a corkscrew vine which has the same blossom shape but is multi colored and fragrant but most nurseries sell these interchangeably because they do not understand the difference so I am hoping I get a true "Corkscrew". Time will tell.

Nice one. I had this and it is no longer with us... :(

This is lovely. Never seen it before. How hardy is it?

20 Apr, 2009

Chris..I guess it is pretty hardy. Probably not extreme cold for prolonged periods but it does run rampant and gets into everything if not controlled. Grows extremely fast. My son's vine lived and stayed green all winter but he lives in Phoenix so that isn't saying much about cold endurance.

Tg...sorry your is no longer with you. They generally choke other plants out so maybe, it is not a complete loss for the sake of your other plants. lol

Beautiful....

Another ugly duckling story? I'm wierd, I guess, I even like the bud...provides interest...but then, I am not bothered with snails so I guess it doesn't remind me of bad experiences.

20 Apr, 2009

I like different things... Not being bothered by snails sounds great and different! lol..
