I found a slow worm today on my compost. Under the old piece of carpet and on top of the old compost bag, keeping nice and warm.
They are legless lizards and are good for your garden as he is a predator.

Beautiful little creature. I've said it before, but I do envy you having these sharing your garden.

It still amazes me how much these slow worms look like snakes! Even though I know they are a type of lizard.

I saw an adder in my garden last year, freaked me out, I dont know how I'd cope if we had proper venomous snakes in the uk.

That's a weird looking snake I don't think we have those in Louisiana. It looks like a skink I have living under my patio.
27 Apr, 2009
Have just goggled skink, and yes Flower, they do have similar habits, but our slow worms dont have legs...

It looks like snake, anyway, I wouldnt like to find it in my garden or wherever... when I came in England I thought I was saved of the horrible ones from Brazil...

A slow worm? I have never seen one of those although I have heard of them, hmm a type of lizard hey? Well I don't mind lizards at all, whilst we were on holiday in Africa and again in Bermuda and Hawaii we had gekko's around and they are really cute but fast. My pet hate's are wasp's and horror upon horrors earwig's.....yeeuch!
28 Apr, 2009
Oh yes, agree with you about the earwigs Bob.............yuk

I found three slow worms by now in my garden (or at least I saw three times the same :)). I didn't knew they are not snakes but legless lizards. Hope next time when I see one of them I'll have my camera with me.

That would spook me no end. I would be too scared to go back in the garden for a while. Sorry it looks like a snake, but pretty.
