Unknown plant....

but very pretty. It was a small clump obtained from a 'garden sale'. It is in my gravel bed and does well each year. The leaves are a purpley-brown colour!

Yes I think so Jacque - this looks very similar.

Hi Jacque/Bernieh, I've just checked out Spritz's photo (and googled!) but am not convinced it is the same. The leaf shape seems different and even the flower seems different somehow! I will post close ups of the leaf and flower on mine. See what you think :)

Im still sure its a Cranesbill Gee even if not the same as Spritzs! I believe Spritz has a Book with all the Cranesbills in im sure she`l know 4 sure :) I saw a pic of 1 like it on Google called " Cheryles Shadow "?? it could be same as leaf looks same shape Gee :)

I'm sure you're right, Jacque, there are so many similarities. Hywel has said that Beryl has a book too. I think I shall have to go book hunting (I love books as much as I love gardening!)

You're right, Jacque, it does look the same. (Just returned from bowls and had a another chance to Google!) The flowers almost hide among the foliage at times and even in winter the plant retains its shape. Thank you.

David would probably like a bit of this for his chocolate garden. It looks like the Cranesbill family to me you may have a new variety here.

I will have to investigate further to see if I can make more plants. Problem is it's in a gravel bed, planted through a membrane. Might take major surgery to do :)

Its very attractive and the leaves are like the cranebill, best of luck with the surgery!

I'm convinced Jacque has solved the puzzle and it's Cheryles Shadow but whatever its called I like it :)

Take a look at G. 'Dusky Crug' or G. 'Sue Crug', Gee - I think it might be one of those. :-) Only think, please note! I haven't checked Jacque's idea!

Thanks Spritz. I have just googled all the suggestions and checked out various photos and discounted Sue Grug (greener foliage), and going by the flower alone I think Jacque is right. The flowers stay low among the foliage and the petals are rounder than Dusty Crug - but that's another one one my wish list :)
