He looks like what we used to call a "Bloodsucker" Jacque, haven't seen one in years.

Just looked him up Jacque,I think he's a red flat bark beetle.The site says they predate on other arthropods,so although he won't damage your plants he could eat some good bugs. Can't win can we lol ?

Just another thought Jacque- it's probably the larvae that do the damage to your plants ie bark !! Is he still around ?

I have checked my books and I think that this is Pyrochroa Serraticicornis. Neither it nor it's larvae are a threat to plant as even the larvae feed on larvae under the bark of trees. It is similar to and has similar habits to the Cardinal beetle. The main difference between the Cardinal beetle and this one is that the Cardinal beetle has a black, rather than a red head.
