Brilliant! It almost looked like an Allium at first, it's so round. I've grown a new Poppy this year called Blackcurrant Fizz and I can't wait to see it's flowers to see if they live up to their name! They'll have a job to live up to this one.

Hi Milky...it is a papaver somniferum... we call them annual poppies as they self seed... very hardy...will grow and bloom in almost pure sand...but does wonderfully in nice loamy soil...they will tolerate dryness too... prodigious seed producers... they self seed very easily...and if you leave the soil undisburbed you will have a mat of them next spring. When the flower petals drop I watch the pods on mine...when they've dried a bit I pinch the stem about 6 inches below the pod and tip it into a paper bag...the seed just rain out!

Thanks Lori for the information.....Its a beauty, and I love it so I will definately self seed, but save some for anyone who wants some/////
