Just read in the paper today that experts predict the largest hatchings of Painted Ladies in 3 centuries,Apparently more than 10 million entered the UK in May and each female lays 300 eggs so we could have a billion by early August ! How fantastic is that !!!
24 Jul, 2009
That is definitely fantastic Bonkers. Can't wait to see the result of the hatch. Judging by what I've seen, this year has been particularly good for all the butterflies and moths,

Thats great news BB.......so far I have only one here...Lol and today she allowed me to take a couple of more pics of her.....:o) I have a patch of Nettles which I was going to pull out.......but shall leave them now for the eggs.....:o
Did you know that her name is Vanessa cardui.......Vanessa being Greek for Butterfly....:o)

Yes Toto,we have seen greater numbers of Caggage whites,Commas and Red Admirals.Pained Ladies not reached us up north yet,at least we have seen none but hopeful if that prediction is correct !
No Janey, did not know her full name...but a very pretty one it is ! Our patch of nettles are definitely staying !

Ooh....I must have a look, its a good year for the Butterflies BB, apart from the Painted Ladies......I have loads of white (!) ones..... Just imagine the amount when all the eggs have hatched........
