Buddleja Royal Red....

Buddleja Royal Red.... (Buddleja davidii Royal Red.)

I would call this mauve, not red, have decided to buy a couple of these plants, we used to grow a lot in our old garden, and really miss seeing the butterflies, will have to keep them pruned, because they do get enormous in the South....

I really have a soft spot for the Buddleia's. I've got this one but it doesn't really do very well. Might have to have a go at moving it.

All the other shrubs around my Royal Red have taken over DD2, It must be fighting for light - but it doesn't even grow tall and leggy :( Me thinks I should take it out completely and plant somewhere else :)

That's beautiful! Buddleja madagascariensis is very commonly grown here. They do attract a lot of butterflies.

Delonix we are desperate for butterflies this year, has been a disaster, the only insects doing well are midges and mosquitoes, and we could do without those!!

20 Jul, 2012

That's horrible, mosquitoes are the worst!

We have lots of butterflies, June bugs and the giant black bumble bees.

If I'd looked a bit further on the eBay site, I'd have got a blue one, but I saw the magenta one and went for it. so many colours ...

Fran there are loads of colours to chose from now, and shapes....

25 Jul, 2012

I didn't know about shapes - as far as I knew, there were the big'uns and the dwarf ones. I know ther are plenty of colours - now!

There are round flowers, in our last garden we grew many different ones as we had the space we grew a beautiful orange ball shaped one called globosa, and alternerfolia which has very long spikes...
