Thanks, pmg. Interesting reading..

In any future BBC TV scheduling, I hope Carol Klein will be given good opportunities to show her vast knowledge and experience of gardening.... and as an expert plantswoman.

Alan Titchmarsh ! :o(((((
Can't stand him sorry.

19 Jan, 2010

mad
Mad

I'm with you there Hywel. In my opinion he is a first class self publicist rather than a gardener.

Thanks PMG.....

I agree Mad. I find him very iritating. He won't help me get back to watching Gardener's world.

Not overly keen myself...too patronising and childlike for my taste...if they can't dig up Geoff Hamilton, then give it to Carol Klein

19 Jan, 2010

Yes Bluespruce. She's great.

----the Generation Game-style competitions consigned to the conveyor belt, and the cringe-worthy customised ice-cream van that distributes seeds to a bemused public clamped for good. And in their place will be what the devotees of the gentle world of horticulture have long yearned for: a return to the beloved tried-and-trusted format that was the television equivalent of an evening in with a comforting cup of cocoa and a seed catalogue. And the good news doesn't end there. Rumours are rife that that national treasure of the gardening world, Alan Titchmarsh, has agreed to return.----

good heavens some over paid non gardener must have joined the bbc
appealing to a young audience to try some thing that takes ---3 months to do--

yeah well no more comment

I love her voice.

Thank pmg-- I didn't even like Monty Don-- really fed up with being patronised as in many good programmes --dumbed down-- Grrrrrr

something like springwatch I could enjoy more if it hadn't become a programme for pre-scools! Grrrrr again!

Sorry Pmg i've finished now :~0)

I find myself agreeing with Professor Stefan Buczacki, although I have always found him a little bit too academic for my taste, that, if it ain't broke............... This seems to be the way in all things today, the majority of people in commerce appear to need to try and re-invent the wheel at every possible opportunity in order to be noticed, although I suppose it does provide employment for those who have to clear up the mess afterwards.

I have great respect for Carol Klein as a plantswoman and I have always thought that she had more plant knowledge than the rest of the team put together. Unfortunately her natural enthusiasm appears to have become more exaggerated as time has gone on and there seem to be just too many gushing adjectives these days which puts me off.

Alan Titchmarsh, although he is probably everything he has been described as previously, would provide a safe pair of hands to get the show back on the road in the short term.

having met Alan I found him very down to earth and a nice gent. I am looking forward to seeing what they plan to do with it, it cant be any worse than it has been lately can it?

I think the new schedule might just have something for everybody. BBC Press Office release says:

Alan Titchmarsh is picking up his trowel once more as he returns to BBC Two to present a new gardening series.

And joining Alan with new series of their own are former Gardeners' World presenter Monty Don and current presenters Carole Klein, Alys Fowler and Sarah Raven.

In a new four-part series, Alan's Garden Secrets, Alan visits some of Britain's most spectacular showpiece gardens that usually remain hidden from public view and discovers the big moments and the master gardeners that shaped our landscape.

Each week, Alan visits a different garden, from spectacular Regency showpieces to small intricate jewel-box gardens, to discover how the garden was inspired and influenced by the leading garden designers of the era before demonstrating how we can achieve a little piece of the spectacular in our own back yards. There will be tips to suit all budgets and all scales of garden.

Alan says: "I'm delighted to be returning to BBC Two for what promises to be a really special new series. Not only will I be able to share some of my favourite gardens from across the country but I'll be getting my hands dirty, passing on some hints and tips to viewers so they can create some of the same magic in their own gardens."

Meanwhile, Monty Don journeys from the south of Italy to the north, visiting some of the country's most beautiful, impressive and interesting gardens along the way in Monty Don's Italian Gardens. From lovingly-created romantic hiding places to enormous formal gardens of the Catholic Church, this four-part series is bursting with great characters, compelling stories and captivating insights.

Monty says: "The only thing I like more than hands-on gardening is to visit other people's gardens, and I am thrilled at the prospect of travelling to some the most spectacular gardens in the world in a country I love. This will be a very personal trip, relishing gardens of all kinds, from the secret to the palatial, and setting them all into the context of Italian life, landscape and culture – and learning more about our gardens too."

Alongside these new series, Gardeners' World returns to its classic weekly half-hour slots with occasional hour-long specials. The series will be on air earlier to coincide with the beginning of the gardening year and the run has been extended, ensuring all the key gardening moments from the start of the year to the busy summer period are covered.

Lead presenter Toby Buckland will be joined by the regular team of presenters, Carol Klein, Alys Fowler and Joe Swift, as they share tips and advice on what to do in your garden each week during the gardening year.

Toby Buckland says: "Gardeners' World is the destination programme for practical, timely advice and I am thrilled that we will be gardening from Greenacre throughout the growing season, providing the continuity that gardeners want."

And there are also three new Gardeners' World productions to look forward to:

In a new six-part series, Carol Klein presents Life And Death In A Cottage Garden, guiding viewers through a year in the lifecycle of her own garden at Glebe Cottage in Devon. From the hidden secrets of winter, the first shoots of spring and the fecundity of summer, the programme will take viewers right through to the slow death of autumn and the preparation for rebirth. And you will see it all as it really happens.

The Edible Garden finds presenter Alys Fowler setting out to prove that growing and cooking your own fruit and vegetables is hugely rewarding, cost-effective and life-enhancing. The series follows her across the growing year as she transforms her garden into a place where peas climb up roses, lettuces sit happily next to sunflowers and dwarf beans edge the path. Alys creates tasty dishes from the produce she has grown and meets the experts who will show her how to preserve, pickle and store her wares. As well as looking after her chickens, she forages in the hedgerows and finds out about other projects such as urban bee-keeping.

And in River Of Flowers Sarah Raven, gardener and keen amateur botanist, plants "rivers" of wildflowers to save our disappearing native meadow plants and to create nectar-rich corridors for our bees, butterflies and birds. Working alongside local conservationists, she shows how we can each play our part in saving Britain's wildflower meadows and helping our native fauna cope with the pressures of life in the 21st century.

Also returning next year is Grow Your Own Drugs with presenter James Wong, demonstrating how to make more home-grown remedies using plants grown in the garden.

I `ve always liked Alan and his way of presenting,so if he does come back I will be tuning in again........

Thank you for the info Wagger, there should be something for everyone this time-hopefully :) Our gardens like our personalities are so diverse it's difficult to please everyone. There are bound to be plants, designs and presenters we don't like, hopefully these programmes will be a better balance of all three !

I wander who say htat?

19 Jan, 2010

Thank you for writing that out Wagger. So I don't have to endure A.T. every week. I can just miss out the programmes he is on. That's all right.
I like Sarah Raven aswell. I think she is brilliant. Looking forward to her and Carol Klein's programmes .

geoff hamilton lit the gardening spark in me.....carol klien and chris beardshaw has kept it burning dispite titchmarsh throwing a bucket of cold water on it with his....'humour and inuendo'......
carols enthusiasum is contageous.....chris give advice that i find understandable....and throw in a bit of dermont for some great ideas......that would get me tunning in again.....oh and racheal can come too..;-))

20 Jan, 2010

I am not very keen on Alys Fowler, but love the rest.

20 Jan, 2010

I'm so pleased things are changing there........I like Alan and I think if Gardener's World returns to it's down to earth format, Alan will present accordingly. Monty is my fave...easy on the eye...Lol and full of knowledge, I love Carol's enthusiasm, she keeps it up beat, yep like Sarah Raven, but for the younger in-put would choose James Wong over Alys Fowler...sorry Alys!!

20 Jan, 2010

Can't stand Mrs Bossy-boots (Sarah Raven), even her own husband doesn't seem too keen. LOL. I don't think Alys ever wanted to be a presenter, she was pushed into it - and it shows. I do hope Monty Don's tour of Italy is better than 'Around the World in 80 Gardens' - if it's not there's always the off button - or old tapes of Geoff Hamilton.

20 Jan, 2010

Can't stand Sarah Raven, especially that piece of sackcloth she wears...what's that all about..? as far as modern garden presenters go you can keep the lot! as far as I'm concerned, including Alan Titmarsh and Monty Don.

Head and shoulders above the rest are as follows:

1 - Geoff Hamilton
2 - Roy Lancaster
3 - Geoffrey Smith
4 - Carol Klien

Sorry couldn't come up with a no.5...:0)

20 Jan, 2010

Give me Alan Titchmarsh any day of the week. I for one would be so grateful if he paid my small plot a visit. His down to earth advice, and his patience with a poor gardener (me) would be more than welcome here. In my opinion, no one can beat his knowledge or his love of gardening. He seems to have an understanding of plants that is quite rare to find. All the others have their own special traits, and are acceptable in their own way, but for me it is Alan first and foremost.

20 Jan, 2010

Tee hee...Blue...Sarah Craven does wear some weird and not wonderful gear I totally agree......maybe the sackcloth and ashes look, she hopes, gives her credibility....and if Monty Don..love him...wears that blue shirt and braces again...I'll scream!!! Lol! By the way did you look at my Humber Bridge blog???...:, thought you said you couldn't find it....:o)))

20 Jan, 2010

Yes I did Jane.. I only asked if you could see it from your back garden...so was amazed how you managed to get a blog and a half out of it.....:0)))..xx

20 Jan, 2010

Head and shoulders above the rest are as follows:

1 - Geoff Hamilton
2 - Roy Lancaster
3 - Geoffrey Smith

high five bluespruce, but if we can pik an choos fro hte deduns, hten i havin to be changin my thinkin as folow:

1 - chrsophfer lloyd and beth chatto
2 - Geoffrey Smith
3 - Roy Lancaster
4 - Geoff Hamilton
5 - caro klein

also worthy are Joe Swift, Bob flowerdew and Cleve West. plus 2 others i no memry name

Aftenoon tea wiht Beth Chatto 25yeer ago weer an jorney to hte centre of hte earth - what htis wondeful lady did not no bout garden weer long sinc buried for tomb robbers. Many of todays will-o-hte-wisps, weer meerly born into civility, no lived in dignityto theer sbject

20 Jan, 2010

I think Beth Chatto should be removed from the deduns list - still very much alive as far as I am aware. I would put her in the head and shoulders group although she doesn't 'do' TV as such. Roy Lancaster and Carol Klein might have a thing or two to say, as well. LOL

21 Jan, 2010

A simple question Blue, and look what was achieved.........be careful what you ask!!...Lol!

21 Jan, 2010

What did they do with Chris Beardshaw-easier on the eye than Monty, sorry Janey :)) I liked his calm but enthusiastic style.

21 Jan, 2010

Wggaer- me thinkin you misunderstan as hte list was a choosin from, no a list of -stil, never mine ie live and deduns
