A day out at Newbury with Gardening friend

You may think Newbury is a bit of a long way to go for a Gardening Show, when you live in Kent. – Well it is……but what the heck, its the first show of the year, a chance to have a nice day out with a gardening friend and also to pick up some good bargains and unusual things for the garden. I think we certainly achieved that! but Ill let you decide a bit later on in this blog. I had been nervously watching the weather forecast for the end of the week. Good job neither Willynilly or I am superstitious, our day to travel being Friday the 13th! We left early, a good part of the journey involving the M25, otherwise known as the largest car park in Europe! We may have been slightly over eager as when we got there after having a hearty breakfast at the nearby services the showground looked like this:

We were one of the first to arrive, only a couple of other vehicles were here and I think they belonged to the marshalls

No one even queing at the entrance

Now dont go to sleep Willi!

Thats good, lets get the trolleys out – were sure to need them!

At last they have opened the gates! – time to get shopping!

I must now offer all my Goyer friends my apologies, not many photos got taken from this point on, we were far too busy having a nice time. We didnt have to carry that much as most of the stall holders held onto our purchases until we returned to collect them at the end of the day which made it all the more pleasurable. By the time we got back to the car we had a lovely selection of purchases
Heres Willi with her cache:

I bought just a few things:

!
I had a lovely time finding new homes for all my finds

I didnt buy these but had to include them as I know Sally likes them

Only a couple of plants – this time. A marguerite

This was half the price of the ones currently on offer at local GC!
Also Willi was kind enough to buy me a lovely camellia plant, (Ill put a photo on later)
A few things for my new shed (still waiting for it to arrive..grrrrr) including a tool rack/holder, some little hearts to hang up, some beautiful hanging basket brackets really old and a bit rusty (which I like)and some good value pond plant tablets. – such good bargains!
Willi bought loads of stuff too but Ill let her tell you about that. Come on Willi, hurry up and do a blog – I cant wait to see some of the lovely things you bought and what youve done with them in your garden!

Im now spent out. No visits to the GC for at least a couple of weeks! Next show on the agenda is Malvern, so really must be good and save up for that. I just hope the sun decides to come out again so we can have some nice meals out on the patio and sit outside with a few coffees.
Thanks for viewing, hope you enjoyed it.

Thanks Terra and Meadow
Its so hectic in the garden at this time of year, its nice to have a day out with someone who shares the same interest. Im renewed with vigour to get on with another project now. Im slowly getting it how I want it. I may get a garden as nice as yours - one day! I just need somewhere to stash the cooking sherry now! Im just off to read your message Meadow.

Oh thanks Oji, Cinders and Lil. Alot of people made comments about our matching trolleys, we had alot of fun with those Oji. It wasnt too crowded either Cinders, but things were good value - I learned my lesson after humming and harring over a mirror at a show last year, when I went back to get it - it had gone - lesson learned. Lil you will have to wait until I get my shed up to see the other bits and bobs. Its only a little one for my tools and the lawnmower but Id really like a pretty little 'new england' style one. Ill do another blog when its up and painted.

You have lots of lovely bits in your garden Paul, your garden is one that I have gained lots of inspiration from. Dont laugh I was really taken with a chicken pen. Im still trying to figure out where I can squeeze one in! ....oh well you have to dream dont you!:))))

Lol ... I persuaded a friend to get chickens over a year ago. Took a bit of convincing but she now has eight and fresh eggs to give away!

Looks like you both broke the bank...doing your bit for the ecconomy. ;)

Oh now thats my kind of shopping, who needs food and clothes, it makes all the difference being with someone who enjoys it as much, you have some good purchases between you Poppy and Willi looks pleased and happy, glad you enjoyed the day....

Ty Paul, I do try to be kind - doesnt always happen!
Pimp- I just need to find some kind of elastication for the fence. The pen I found was a small one, large enough for 4 chickens if you let them out during the day. I like the idea of having a chicken following you around in the garden. The chap we spoke to said they do that, also the freshest eggs you could wish for - lovely!
Thanks Lincslass, I hoped I would get a gardening buddy by joining Goy. I found a lovely one in Willi.

Ah thanks PoppyL.
She says im a good gardening buddy yet she blames me for leading her astray when were out shopping!
I will do a blog tomorrow, been abit busy getting my son sorted for going back to Uni today.
Cant wait to get out in the garden & find places for all my purchases, dont know where to start!
