Hi sugarbevs it depends when you planted them as well. At the moment mine are green yellow and red , so you can't tell. It's been a lovely warm day in derby's today so they should be turning.

I am really enjoying reading the responses to this question! For once, just once, we are having earlier success than most of you with a veggie crop. Sorry for crowing, but it really doesn't happen very often :-)
We are currently feeding tomatoes to a family of five including our son and two teenage grandsons - not many at a sitting but they are doing very nicely, thank you.

AWESOME, HAVE YOU EVER TRIED SAUTEYING THEM with a little salt and black pepper...yum
cherries you would just cut in half but it goes good as a side dish to any meaty meal

Lovegreen..do you mean the green ones ?

if you wait until the toms are almost ripe but still green, you can pick them, wash them(if you care to), then put some butter or a little oil, about half a teaspoon,in a frying pan preferably non-stick and then if you have big toms then you can slice them , if they are cherry then cut them in half, and fry or sautee them for a couple of minutes turning them brown a tad then lay them on paper towel to suck up the grease and enjoy. I like using butter better, it may be more fattening but it tastes better. let me know what you think. Enjoy.

Tomatoes need sunshine to ripen. Our son has just arrived from Yorkshire and is complaining that because of the wet weather his tomatoes are still all green.
He is very jealous that up here in sunny Scotland we have had good, sunny weather (honest) ours are ripening up nicely and we have one or two red ones.
