When to Plant Peanuts

If anyone can help, I have read to use Peanut in there shells ang get them from a Supermarket/Petshop is this the right thing to do also when is the best time to plant

Don't know when is actual time to plant, but last autumn squirrel planted lots from bird feeder in pots and all over garden,in spring they popped up all over the place but never left them to see whether they'd produce peanuts.
