What is eating my strawberries?

United Kingdom

I have 6 plants in a large container on a table. I've had lots of healthy flowers and leaves but over the last week 50% of the flowers have had the small centre and some of the leaves eaten. There is a net over the box so I don't think it's birds. I did find 1 deep red beetle on the table. We have squirrels around, would they eat flowers? Any help would be appreciated. I've bought some more stock but am holding them in the greenhouse at the moment.

Thanks Noseypotter, I have seen some around, I'll put some straw pots on canes and see what I catch.
