Digitalis

I found that once I planted Digitalis it just kept self seeding all over the garden. Because I have more than one colour I can never say with certainty what colour flowers a seedling will produce. The flowers are great favourites with the bees and there is a lot of cross pollination between the different colours.
There is a wide variation from pure white to deep pink.

Yes beautiful plants and lovely when self seeded .they probably plant themselves in better positions than we ever would!

They are such lovely plants. I get lots if them too, and I move them around - I often find them self-seeded in containers and hanging baskets. Funnily enough, I can never manage to keep the perennial ones I've bought from the GC. Yours are lovely.
Hope you enjoyed your weekend.

I also have some that self seeds in a pot Melche... So I have brought some with me to my new garden by default. I was going to plant them in a partly shady spot by my greenhouse today but, it's pouring down at the moment!

I'm just looking at mine now, Paul. I love the way they tower up above the other things. I have some Evening Primrose as well, which will do the same thing before too long.
Sorry to hear about the rain (although, dare I say it, we really could use some here - one of the water butts is empty. I don't generally water the garden except for new plants, but at this time of year I have a lot of containers with annuals, so watering is a regular activity). We're enjoying a sunny spell just now, though it's cool and breezy. It was windy, grey and cold this morning.

I love Digitalis Scotsgran ! I used to have many self seeding at Willow Cottage, but not enough room here ! I did have the "illumination " which only survived for two years and didn't set seed as it was sterile ! Yours are beautiful !

I will save you some seed Bjs or bring you some seedlings to have a go again. I do not find them being attacked by slugs. Although I tend to treat mine like perennials I think the garden centres would prefer that you treat them as biennials. I never save seed as they just do their own thing and I weed out what I do not need or the ones in the wrong situation. Some are quite small only 18" to 2' but others are over 6'. They tend to be a surprise package because I do not know which colour they will be until they flower. I'm pleased to hear so many of you grow them because the bees do love them. Mel I can sympathise with your desire for rain. We are having Spring weather at the moment with rain overnight and wind and sunshine interspersed with showers during the day. The water butt has been empty for some time and has not being getting refilled. I think it depends from which direction the rain is coming. I think it will soon be hose time again.
