That BIG Moon 14/15 November 2016

I do not usually take photos of stuff so far away but when OH called me to see the BIG Moon – not seen like this since 1948 I had to go and get the camera. The first 5 photos were taken around 10:54pm when the moon was peeping out from behind clouds and I had to try and capture the times when wispy clouds or clear sky allowed it to shine very brightly. The rest were taken around 4am. I wonder what influences this natural cycle has on the weather we experience in the garden.

Gosh! You are so lucky to have seen it. It was raining here, but I got up at three thirty and looked out of the window to see a very bright moon.

Well done S'gran, I too was lucky enough to get some photo's, won't be around to see the next one, lol....All it seems to be doing here here this week is rain, every time you think its clearing up for a while down it comes again, not cold though so mustn't grumble...

Down here in Sussex, it doesn't look that big to me but a few years ago I was driving home late one night and saw the biggest, red moon with clouds over it, looking somewhat magical. Nature's wonderful isn't it.

Have to be honest Cammomile, we did actually get better shots whilst in Cheshire middle of Aug and it did seem a lot closer on that night, yes I can also remember the huge red moon, my youngest lived other side of town in those days and we were going to her house at the time, I remember thinking we'd never seen it like that before, it was approx. 10/12yrs ago....

It was nice to see that blue sky around the moon so late at night.

I so wanted to see this but it was not at all visable here

We didn't see it here either - it was (and still is) raining.
It must have had an influence on the tides. They happen because of the gravitational pull of the sun and moon on the water in the sea.
If it was nearer the earth than usual, I suppose it had a greater gravitational pull, and so the spring tides would have been higher than usual (and lower too)
Not sure about the weather though. It has rained as usual.

I suppose I was more excited by seeing the moon as I had not paid much attention to news that it was going to be a once in a generation event and I had not planned to see it. If OH had not called me to see it I would have been quite happy to go to bed and not given it a thought. I hope none of our Welsh members have been affected by the mini tornados reported on the news tonight.

Nothing here Scotsgran, apart from the usual rain :) The tornado was further north.

i'm glad to hear you are safe Hywel. I think we do have some members in North Wales so I hope they too escaped.
