It was a very lucky baby bird Sunnydais. I almost ran over it when I was putting the bins out. The mother was in a real state and chattering away up in the trees. Because we have small walls each side of the drive I thought it would be safer nearer its mum under the trees. I got quite a shock when two pigeons flew away as I went to place the baby near its mother. By the time I returned the chattering had stopped and the baby was nowhere to be seen. I imagine the mother ushered it into a safe spot. Yes that is lychnis coronaria alba in photo 4. It is a short lived perennial but it self seeds around the garden.

The big yellow daisy. Is it an Inula?

Yes Pcw it is Inula magnifica. I have lots of it to weed out from where it self seeded so there is plenty going spare. The red berry on the later photo is Daphne retusa. There was only five berries but they all looked very healthy so I took this one inside to take photos of it after I took the squishy flesh off and popped the others in to the pot where I hope they will grow. We have a good crop of grapes. They are growing on the pergola so may not ripen. This is the first time there has been a crop as up till now I only got a few bunches. They never came to much.

Oh the baby bird is gorgeous! Is the fourth photo a white lychnis? I didn't know they came in different colours, I have a pink one which is beautiful - white would be heavenly!
