Annual summer border [3]

Who would have thought that this series of blogs would still be on the go?
Well in summary,
October 2013. Hubby said ‘thinking of widening the drive and giving you the chance of a small border running the length of the drive. What you think?’
Hubby actually means – Intend to widen the drive but as you are loosing some deep border I’d better offer you a sweetener of a flower border.
November 2013. We dug out the soil, subsoil and levelled it ready for the hard core. Tiring but satisfying.
3.5 cubic metres of hard core dumped and distributed and tamped down. Then the concreting took place. A trusty mixer, willing shovels and after 2 days the concrete was laid. Then the problems started. Injured my back and had to have a steroid injection.
December 2013 Rain and more rain.
January 2014 Rain and more Rain. But back now seems to be better.
February 2nd 2014. Finally lifted the turf and the border is taking shape. I still have to dig the soil carefully and improve it before planting.
In the back garden where I keep the spare plants and propagating hopes I have pots of Tete et tete, Hyacinths and I. reticulata ‘Pixie’ to form the back bone for this border.
I will then use summer bedding, I have Phlox drummondii seeds to set off and then I will see what else to plant.

You're getting there SBG....soon it will be all planted and pretty. :) Drive looks great. I would like to dig some of mine up....and if hubby turns his back long enough, and I get my hands on that pick-axe.....:)

Exciting! And nice to see a patch of sunlight in your picture :-)

The hard work looks like it's been worth while. I'm sure it will look great when the 'New' boarder is planted.

You should have negotiated for another border...in the centre and running along the length of the new drive. Lol.

How long before you start sneaking bits off the lawn to widen it?

I give you six months - when the border plants are nice and big will be the time to gain a few inches by degrees!

ooh now do I wait and prove you wrong or prove you correct ? :o)))

Like an archaeological dig, with a few skulls at this end for good measure!

I like Phlox drumondii and they're going to look pretty along the side of your drive.
I haven't grown them for many years, so maybe I will this year now :o)

Glad you phrased that correctly, HB. ;-)

I'd love to uncover an archaeological site. Vikings were in this area hence the many local place names ending in '-by'. I keep finding Victorian clay pipe stems in the back garden so that's something.

You will have a nice long border to "play" with there! :-D)

Coming along nicely, you will get there in the end. I remember you doing the driveway last year. Wondered how it had all come along. Great that you have some plants already to pop in. :O)))
