Primrose Bank

No not a bank of primroses but a lovely nursery specialising in rare and unusual plants.

Its at Kexby near York on the A1079. They are wonderful and they do mail order too.

I didn’t take photos of the nursery but I did spend a lot. I should have gone to a rare plant fair but there had been an accident on the A64 and I was running late.

So what did I buy? Photos with plant labels to show you what I bought.

I now have to decide where I am going to plant them.
I just cant resist buying the less common plants. But as I have a lot of shade these are going to be perfect.

Check them out. They will be at the Harrogate spring show too.

yes I could have easily spent double what I did do. But I'd have to clear space for them and I haven't quite got round to it yet.

I will check them out! You have an amazing collection of beauties there. Look out for the slugs on those Asarum. I bought two from Longacre. The Europeum did survive...just. But the lovely Splendens was eaten faster than you could say "Europeum Splendens"! And it didn't survive. Good luck!

What an excellent selection of plants. I think shade is an opportunity to grow delights like these.

yes you are so right. When we first moved here I was dismayed by the amount of shade. but there are so many lovely 'shady ladies' that I am spoilt for choice. though some are definitely ericaceous and i'm on chalk.

Lovely anemones Sbg - I didn't know either of them and now I want them...
I wish we had bigger and better nurseries around here...

Encouraged by what you had bought looking so healthy, I asked OH if he could find the nursery and the answer was 'yes' We were going to go today, but of course it's the silly opening rules, but we'll probably go tomorrow, so thanks again for posting SBG. :))

they are not always open every day so do check first Waddy. I'd hate you to make the journey for them to be closed.

let us know how it gets on Paul.

I cant get a really good pen for labels they fade after a couple of years.

We tried ringing them on Monday, but there wasn't any reply. We might try again one day next week.
There's an article in the May addition of Garden Answer about using wooden clothes pegs as plant labels. It looks like a great idea.
