Busy in the greenhouse and other stuff.

It was a bitterly cold weekend here but I did spend time in the greenhouse. There are lots of plants keeping ‘cosy’ well cosy-ish as it got down to -3 Sunday.
The sweet peas that germinated in their pods were planted up and I am delighted to see top growth on most of them.
After checking with fellow Goyers I have planted up the onion sets and shallots ready to go out when the veg patch is clearer of plants.
I have lots of plants inside and out [as you can see from the photos] waiting to either go in my garden or to be sold for charity. The greenhouse still needs tidying up and a decent clean in March.
Plants outside the greenhouse
plants in the first half on the left of the greenhouse
and the ones on the right.
Cuttings and divisions at the back on a tray.
Bulbs and cuttings. Some have been here since the autumn and a little bit of moss is forming on the surface. They will have to be ‘scraped’ before too long.
Back in the warmth I have been looking after my houseplants, cyclamen and orchids. Only 2 photos of these :o)
Then there is my Iris ensata. Started on Friday and it will hang on the stairs. It is pieced, appliqued and quilted before being bordered and hung; the photo is of it on the settee.

Me too. Love the quilt & that Dendrobium is gorgeous. I would like to add one to my orchid collection.

This is the second year for the Dendrobium to flower. I'm not sure what to do with the fleshy stem that flowered last year. It has decided to flop over and is resistant to staking.

After seeing your sweet peas I think I'll sow mine this week, and onion sets too ...

there were 2 flower buds trying to open but I think the weather has put paid to that. Lots of seed pods still on mine Hywel.

I hope your plants in the greenhouse were tucked up nicely after Tuesday night's snow.

it gets cold as it is unheated but the sun is shining nicely on it.

If you're getting the deep freeze we had here, I'd move them indoors. We had minus 15F.

the orchids are in the house. the greenhouse doesn't really have many half hardy plants so they will /should all be ok. -2c last night that's about 28F. Not as cold as yours which converts to about -26c. that is cold :o( Was that a couple of weeks ago? I remember seeing an article that wind chill would make it feel like -40c.

That was last weekend, but it was quite cold 2 weeks ago as well. No snow yet though they keep talking about it. I have your seeds outside. I know they need this coldness to break dormancy which means strong healthy plants in the spring. I'll pot them up end of February and plant them outside in April, so they are in tune with the seasons.

Wow you been busy, you have alot going on, I've not seen any seeds yet.

You have a great many plants, seedlings & bulbs to look after, SBG!
What you have done with your onion sets is exactly the same as I did nearly 10 years ago when Gerry invited me to share his allotment with him. On the balcony I potted up half a bag of onion sets which I later took down to the allotment & planted out. It was the first time I'd ever grown onions & they did pretty well I think!

My haven't you been busy one way or another? I love the colour of your Dendrobium.

I've been splitting a lovely evergreen epimedium today.
I am propagating for the HPS AGM that my local group is hosting.
